2023 Scholarship Recipients

NTHA was able to award four $1,500 scholarships this year to one high school student (Community Forests Scholarship) and three college students (College Forest Resources Scholarship). Three of the students were able to join us at our July board meeting.

The Community Forests Scholarship recipient is Wesley Anderson from Mountain View Jr/Sr High School. Wesley will be attending Houghton University for Environmental Science, his career goal is become a park ranger in the Western US.


The first College Forest Resources Scholarship recipient is Jared Grossman from Paul Smith’s College. He is majoring in Arboriculture & Forestry with an anticipated graduation date in May 2026. Jared’s goal is to work for a forestry consulting firm or enter the urban tree management field.


The second College Forest Resources Scholarship recipient is Elizabeth Bruner from Penn State DuBois where she is majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Science and Forest Ecosystems Management. She is currently interning with the Forestry department for the Pennsylvania Game Commission in Clearfield County. Her long term career goal is to work for the Pa Game Commission, Pa DCNR Bureau of Forestry or the US Forest Service. (Elizabeth was unable to attend the board meeting due to her internship)


The third College Forest Resources Scholarship recipient is Rachel Klein from Auburn University where she is majoring in Architecture. Rachel has an emphasis and appreciation for timber based construction. She has gained knowledge from mass timber construction all the way to making hardwood cabinets. Her career goal is to obtain licensure as a professional architect with an additional LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation.
