In collaboration with the PA Hardwoods Development Council, NTHA has published this resource on native and invasive insects, plants, and diseases that are impacting, or have the potential to impact our forests in Pennsylvania.
“What will my woods look like?” This is often one of the first questions that forest landowners ponder when considering forest management options that involve harvesting timber on their property. The visual aesthetics of their forest is important to them and the fear of how a harvest might alter the look of their woodlot can often hold them back from implementing necessary management practices. The HDC & HUGs have developed this pictorial resource for forest landowners to see before and after examples of various silvicultural treatments utilized in Pennsylvania.
Penn State Extensions “Forest Management and Timber Harvesting in PA” resource is available here. This document is intended for townships and the forest product industry. It was done by PSU Extension with funding and assistance from the Hardwoods Utilization Groups (NTHA, AHUG, and KWPA).
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle that has killed millions of ash trees from the Midwest to the Northeast United States. EAB has been confirmed in most of Pennsylvania, leaving landowners wondering what to do with the ash in their yards and woodlots. The following brochure can provide more information how to manage your dead or dying ash trees.
